Studio
   Our 1,500 sq ft. hay barn studio renovation was completed in the spring of 2021. The studio has plenty of natural light, 20 ft. ceilings, track lights, and large center gallery area ideal for photographing work. Each resident has 24-hour access to the barn, with a semi-private work space and communal use of the center space. There is a garage door for ease in moving large materials in and out, and covered outdoor work space for working with materials requiring ventilation.
Housing 
   The residents live in a completely restored 1898 farmhouse with a private bedroom, shared kitchen, 1.5 bathrooms, dining room, parlor, and laundry facilities. The rooms are furnished to feel like home, with original art and antique furniture. There are also several fire pits, outdoor seating areas, covered porch and gardens, a tiny pavilion that was once the creamery for the dairy farm, and an open lawn for soccer, badminton, or croquet. An acoustic guitar, banjo, and piano are also available for residents. Delicious local baked goods- ask us about the Pie Buffet and French bakery!
Grounds 
   Our 15 acres offer opportunities for hiking, sketching, performances, installations (with prior discussion and approval), a source of rusty or natural materials, or a new favorite spot to move our hammocks and look at the clouds. 
Cost, Amenities, & Logistics 
   Residencies are for 2 weeks, 4 weeks, or 6 weeks.The standard fee is $275 per week. Financial aid is available - four easy questions on your application. Every resident who requested aid in 2023 received aid. Deposit is required- details are discussed upon acceptance.
The residency fee includes:  

• a private bedroom (or shared for collaborators)
• a semi-private studio in the hay barn, with large work table
• high speed wifi in the house and barn studio
• shared basic tools
• use of our 15 acres for inspiration and installations
• use of shared bicycle (& helmet!)
• professional cleaning service in the house
• fully equipped kitchen and seasonal organic garden veggies
• transportation from Wichita International Airport or Newton Amtrak train station
• grocery trips as needed, field trips as desired
• ample parking for residents who drive their own vehicles

   Artists provide their own travel to the residency, art supplies, specialized equipment and meals. 
   We do not allow pets or overnight visitors during the residency.
   Artists are expected to remain at Mothers Milk for the duration of their residency. 
   Mother's Milk may use photographs of residents and/or their artwork for non-commercial promotional purposes in print or online media. Artists retain copyright to their works in perpetuity. 
   All Mother's Milk buildings are non-smoking facilties.
